Not selling, but part of me wants to.

I have driven the 944 a total of 30 feet in the last month, which is so depressing that part of me wants to sell. I've sunk so many thousands of $$ into her, and now she just sits in the garage, looking pretty, day after day. The part of me that wants to sell needs to be beaten up, because I know I'll never get enough $$ to make it worthwhile, and I also know that nobody will treat her as good as I do. It's like that ex girlfriend everyone has... you know it was time to part, but every boyfriend she has after that will never be 'good enough,' at least, in our minds. So, selling is out of the question. Besides, ten years later, I'd end up on this board talking about how much I loved that car and like an idiot I sold her. That's not happening. So, the only thing left to do is break something. Break something or start some maintainence that will make it impossible to drive for a few weeks. I have a bucket of suspension parts sitting here, so I'm going to start on that. Hopefully I won't feel so guilty when she's up on jack stands, getting new shiny metal pieces. Just venting

i had a bad spell with mine, too. She ran really great for 4 years with no problems, but then all of a sudden it was everything at once. Head gasket went. Water pump went. Bad ground shorted out DME (which also took away my PowerProm priveleges for awhile). Then the unthinkable... timing belt/cam failure. I considered parting her out... but decided to have the engine inspected just to see what the damage was. "only" one bent valve. I decided to stick with her and have her repaired. I am glad I did.

Stick it out. It took me two years to get mine on the road. And I bought it with a broken T-belt. so I didn't even have good memories to carry me through.

I hear ya Bryan! I'm at that point now myself. The cars at the point where everything is starting to go on it. As much as i love the car, sometimes I just cant justify spendin so much money on parts for it. I have cars that are way older, worth 10 times more than the 944, and are a fraction of the cost to keep up.

Yep, same boat here. I need to get off my arse and take it to get a state inspection sticker. I did drive it last Friday for the first time since I don't remember when. Reminded me why I like the car so much, until the shift lever gave up the ghost on the freeway in rush hour traffic. It was stuck in third, but I made it the last 12 miles home. Lucky for me I changed lanes at the correct times and keep moving along. The clutch was only abused one time at a stop sign. Shifter is now fixed.

Man, does this hit a chord. I have actually thought of contacting a guy who said he wanted a '44 to use as a track car. It is either that or have it towed to the crusher and turn it into a lawn ornament.
