A few easy questions
Today I buffed out and waxed my newly aquired 944.
It looks like new!! Pics soon. As I was working I came up with some questions. 1. In 1984, what was the list price for a fully optioned 944 (n/a) Yellow. 2. How rare is a Yellow 84, I have not seen one other than mine. 3. I have a lock cylinder right next to the drivers door. It is an inoperable alarm system. Was this a factory option? 4. How the hell does the sun roof come out (need to get an owners manual ASAP).5. What are the two middle switches on the console for? The ones next to the mirror adjustment. My middle two are missing (just holes). 6. Which fuse is for the cooling fans? (is it in the owners manual which I dont have?) 7. Are the shocks adjustable? |

1. From my 84's window sticker:
Base price $21,440 Metallic paint 445 Option Group H48 1,105 Steering wheel w/raised hub 40 Monterrey digital cassette 600 Protective side moldings 155 Alarm system 200 Partial leather 350 Destination charge 365 Total $24,700 2. I never saw a yellow 84 back in the day but it could have been a special order.

check out the paint code on the car (located on the back wall, under the carpet in the hatch... it'll be a 4 digit code, comprised of letters and numbers.... perhaps the car wasn't always yellow.
the lock cylinder next to your drivers door is, in fact, an alarm. with the alarm engaged, it would sound the horn if either doors or hatch were opened... that little bugger is loud too... disabled by putting the alarm key in the hole and turning it off. if you have a manual sunroof, from the inside unlatch all black plastic clips... twist the rear clips 90 degrees, and push up on the sunroof near the back... it should tilt up. from there, you want to pull it back towards the back of the car to expose the breeze shield that resides in the front lip of the sunroof.

84's should have the power sunroof. To release it, turn the key to the "on" position, but don't start the engine. By pushing the switch in the "close" direction, with the roof completely closed, the rear lifting arms should retract. release the front latches, and lift up the back of the sunroof, and slide it straight backwards. Be careful with the wind deflector. The hinges are kind of fragile, and without the deflector, the open sunroof makes the entire car act like a giant low-frequency whistle.
The empty switch holes were for various options. Most cars had at least one or two unused. You can get little black plastic covers here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_interi_pg6.htm#item20 item #3 The factory shocks are not adjustable, but the early cars did have rebuildable struts with removable cartridges, and i think adjustable cartridges might be available. If your cooling fans aren't working, it's probably the relay, or a bad thermoswitch. if the fuse is ok, and they still don't work, unplug the 2 wires going to the switch on the driver's side, upper corner of the radiator (they're hard to get at!) and jump the 2 terminals together, if the fans work now, you need to replace that switch. if they still don't work, bad relay. If you need a new fan relay, make sure you get the correct part, as the factory parts lists are wrong. They have the part numbers for the fan and A/C relay backwards. Read the 4th post down on this thread to make sure you get the correct relay: cooling fan relay

1984 had Pasadena yellow as a color - not too common.
