alternator crapping out.

i guess its my time of the month again, with my car. having put the cracked firewall issue to bed, for the time being, and fighting a major increase in fuel consumption, i was out cruisin' , and of course, had to stop to put some gas in, to keep going. whats this? engine does not want to start/turning over slowly. i look for the light on the dash, but its MIA! cripes, slow starting/really dim lights, must mean alternator is going/gone south! lucky i'm only 1 mile from home, as i have no lights at all as i pull into the drive!
battery is 3 months old, so this should not be an issue. i will pull it tomorrow, and drop off at a local rebuild shop. once again, i'm reduced to riding in to work with a buddy. seems to be a habit !
oh well !!
bob.

update!!! called a local repair shop this morning, that really deals with old muscle cars, but said they would have a look. i dropped it off, and got a call 35 mins later. all done. new brush's, regulator pack etc , all tested, came to the princely sum of $103can. i guess about $70us.
i had this done about 4 years ago, shortly after getting my car, from another local shop. they took 3 days, and charged me $175.
funny thing too, was, as i dropped the alt off, he asked me what car it was from, and as i told him, he smiled and said, dont worry, we dont add on 100%!!! what a guy. now i'm all happy again just like a pig in $hit.

An honest shop. Looks like you've found a keeper!

I'm suprised that you were so honest. I handed mine in for a rebuild a few years ago and told them that it was from an old beat up '87 VW Scirrocco. Somehow I'm certain I saved big $$$ on the spot.

hey panzer909, just noticed the tr6 in your post!! man thats a nice car! i always wanted one, but hard to come by. i eventually got myself the "little brother" to the tr6, a triumph vitesse, 2liter mark 2, straight six. interesting set up for cornering, with the rear spring going across the axle. no need to tell you about going into a corner way too fast, and braking, as you corner!!! but get the speed right, and slight accelleration thru the corner, and she will hold fast. same for off the line, boot it, and the rear end drops flat, until you shift up, and it jumps back up! great cars though! my regards!

bearone2, what a difference as i drove home this morning! dash lights really bright, and quite the difference with the headlights too. i'm thinking this has been going down slowly, over a couple weeks, or so, as it was not immediately seen. anyway, its all fixed. now, if i can only make it to the weekend, with nothing more going wrong! lol.
