Hey everybody
It just started to get a little cooler here in CT and ever since it did, my windows began to fog like it was fun. it's so annoying, i wipe down the windows cuz they're like drenched and then i leave the car for like 2 minutes and come back n they're foggy again! is there anything i can do to keep them clear so i can see where im drivin? also what would cause them to be so dang foggy? Thanks, Marian |

I'm having the same problem here on L.I. Try running the AC if you have it. It clears them up really quickly. I think the problem is magnified for me, because my usual small and annoying sunroof leak has now been leaking for about 10 rain filled days. I now have a wet rear floor. Hopefully it stops tomorrow and I can wet vac the rug and let it air out...
Regards Graham

Thanks Graham,
these last few days made me hate rain a lot! i need a few new gaskets so thats probably whats causing the fog, just a few rubber weatherstripping things can cause a headache. Its a bunch of small ones so hopefully i can knock those off and get rid of this problem. I have the a/c but its not very cold, i need a recharge. I hear the r14 refrigerant is hard to find and expensive though, i hope i wont have too much trouble finding some. Do you know of anywhere? Hopefully the rain stops soon so you, me and anybody else wont have to worry about waking up in the morning to a fog filled car . Makes me frown every morning to school lol. Thanks, Marian

The fog just happens.
My A/C doesn't work, and after a few rainy days, it fogs up. It gets really bad when it starts to frost on the inside, lol. To fix this, I just take the floormats out to air-dry, and I take a shop vac to the floor carpeting. Usually doing that makes them dry out, and the fog issue is gone. In the early cars, putting the vent fan on doesn't do much for fog at all. Using the electric rear defogger sometimes gets the job done. |

Stop, um, doing "things" that fog up the windows!
Seriously, you can get anti-fog interior window wipes from RainX.

Yes been very foggy lately.
I turn my heat on high, slider all the way in the "up" position, and side vents off. Also the "defog" button is pressed, windows clear right up. Bigbird.... You sure you mean "r14" refrigerant? R12 was the original refrig. used, R-13 is the new-style replacement. R-12 can be found at Branford Radiator (27 Jackson Dr. Branford 203-488-7346). I got a full system recharge there for $100 this summer. They also do the R-13 if its not DIY for you.

Fix your leaks, and the excess fog will be gone. After I had my rear hatch resealed, the fogging problem was cleared up on my car.

A/C Specialties in Bridgeport recharged mine in 2003 for $180 (R12) and $70 labor. If Branford does it for $100 I guess I got rooked. Blows ice cold, though.

oo, oops, yea i meant the r12, haha dont know what i was thinking with the r14 :P but today i noticed a lot of water on the drivers side floor behind the seat and a lot way back behind the rear wheel in the space compartment. i vacuumed up the drivers side and drained the space compartment by simply pulling the hose that was blocking off the whole. A little was left which i vacuumed up. Hopefully the fogging will stop at least a little bit now. O and the carpet def. doesnt smell good! when i bought my 944 the carpets and insulation were all yellow and smelly. I replaced that old beige carpet with a fresh pile of black
and 2 rolls of new insulation. It took quite some time but it def. paid off.

That hose you mentioned in the driver (and passenger) rear wheel well is supposed to be there - drainage tubes (for sunroof if i remember correctly). Could be your hose is cracked/clogged or the hole was clogged not letting the water drain out. You can replace with the larger diameter silicone hose available at any auto parts store.
By the way... where in CT bigbird?

I just fixed a major flood source. Water filled the area around the fuse box. A loose bolt clogged the drain by the front left wheel well behind the fuse box.

I thought I was the only one. So I take it you all carry an ice scraper to do the inside of the windows once the weather turns colder.

Fog could be caused by a heater core leak as well.
