Alternator Component
Check this out. I've been trying to determine loss of power during acceleration at high rpm for some time. With out going into a lot of detail, I noticed the alternator light comes on during the time the engine bogs down. I removed the airbox and found what looks like a fried capacitor at the back of the alternator...
![]() What is this part and would a shop replace that during a regular rebuild of brushes, stator, etc? Is it probable that this part would cause problems with engine performance? In any case I'll be looking to replace the component or replace or rebuild the alternator. Also there are only two wire coming off the alternator; the heavy gage red and the blue. I'm looking at a schematic that shows a 3rd (brown) wire. Can anyone tell me if 2 wires are correct. Thanks, Scott 84' 944na |

That is a capacitive noise filter, and yes, you should get a new one with a rebuilt alternator.
