Headlamp problem..HELP!

On my 86 944 n/a...
When I turn my headlamps on, the pass side lamp will light up for a moment as it goes up, and then goes out. The brights work fine. Sometimes the lamp is fine, but mostly goes out. I thought I had a loose wire but checked them all. Is there a switch that turns the lights on at a cretain point in the rotation of the headlamp doors?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Power goes to the lamp as soon as you hit the switch. I'd say you have a broken wire in the low-beam circuit.

I've just had exactly the same problem with my passenger light - as soon as the headlights were flipped up the left-hand side would come on for a split second then turn off.
It turned out that the cable that goes in to the back of the headlight was held down by two "cable-ties" - one fixing it to the headlamp unit and another holding the cable further down in the engine bay.The one in the engine bay was very tight and with the movement of the unit up and down it simply broke one of the internal wires.
