how do i remove seats?

Ok, this might be a dumb question. How do i remove the seats in my 1988 944. i stripped all the carpet and rear seats already. I also removed the backs to the seats now i have the seat bottoms on the rails. Do i use a alan wrench? Please help!

Slide them all the way back and you should see some allen head bolts in the track... Then slide it all the way forwards and you should see some more.

Mine had hex head screws. Use 1/4 drive ratchet w/ the appropriate socket.

my '88 has hex head screws too. you need the right bit. an alan wrench will only strip it and then you'll have yourself a real problem.
btw - just to remove the seats, you didn't need to do all that other stuff like remove the upper part of the seat and the carpet. the seats will come out in one piece. remember to disconnect the wiring harness (for power seats) under the seat bottom.

Just to clarify, when you move it all the way back, you can see the allen bolts in *front* of the seat, then move it forward and you will see the ones in the rear.

When reinstalling it helps to take a screwdriver and make sure all the trapped nuts are lined up properly. They strip very easily, and next thing you know you're drilling through the floor and bolting the seats in...

There are 6 socket head cap screws holding the seats (A few cars had hex head screws - but not many - most were the Allen head cap type). One does have to slide the seats back and forth to access all of the screws. There is the power plug going to the seats that are powered. There is also a small wire that goes to the emergency brake for it's warning light in the dash. This wire almost always gets pulled loose when doing the seats so watch for it so it's not torn up and it's reusable when re-installing the seats.
