front end alignment

My son installed new front shock inserts and lowering springs on his 944. For the front alignment, can any good alignment shop handle this or does it need to go to a Porsche specific shop? thanks

Any shop should be able to do it. Basically the same as the VW golfs. There is a trick with centering the rack. There is a hole with a plastic plug. Taking the plug out you will see that a bolt can be screwed into it. Bolt needs to have a point that fits into the dimple in the rack. This centers the rack for getting the toe in correct as well as the steering wheel alignment.

The only problem you might run into is clearence on the alignment rack.

Well i hope you get a good deal, Maybe they just saw me comming but I god quoted from " good guys " 150$ to align the front and 250$ to align the back b/c it takes a lil longer on " you're car "

I'm thinking that's way to much, What have you guys paid for alignments, what's reasonable?

I paid around 380 for a full 4 wheel. But that was on short notice and at one of the best race shops around.

I'm planning on taking mine to the Porsche shop. They quoted me $282.

I have receipts from the PO that had it done for less the $100 somewhere in CA...a shop advertised in the local PCA mag.

A full 4 wheel alignment would cost approx 30$ U.S in my town, but then again a good 944 will cost 10k - 12k$ U.S.

Take it to Wal-Mark. They outsource it to China.

I paid $100 to get the front end done when i switched to coil overs. The back, the guy could not figure out how to do. This was at your local mom and pop type place in town. I needed an allignment done quickly so i didnt really mind.

I was recently quoted $175 plus tax by a semi-local Porsche specialty shop for a four wheel allignment and also lowering the rear using the camber eccentrics.

If the alignment shop will do a VW Golf for $50 they should be able to do your 944 for $50. Same setup.

I went to a local shop, the alignment tech new the 944 very well. $50.00 for the front end, something is bent on the pass/side rear. Otherwise I coulda got a 4 wheel for $90.00. This guy knew his stuff told my son to bring it back once the rear is fixed. He'd give him a deal.
