Started, died, no start, backfire
Well, the sun is out today for the first time in 8 days, so i thought I'd take the 944 for a spin.
It was parked outside, under a cover, for those 8 days that it rained hard. It was parked on my driveway, on an incline, with the nose facing up. I started her today and moved her down the driveway, and she started fine the first time, and ran smoothly. I let her sit for about 3 mins to warm er up, and then when I was ready to take off, she sputtered a little, the idle dropped, and kept dropping until the engine just sputtered and died. I tried starting her again, but the engine would just crank without starting. I let her sit for about 10 mins and tried again, and got a smoky backfire. Now, the gas gauge reads just under 1/4 full. I hardly ever let the gas gauge drop below 1/4. Is it possible that I'm getting a faulty reading and I'm actually out of gas? Or maybe there is moisture in the tank?

update:
I remember reading somewhere that a loose rotor could cause this... so, for ha-has, I took off the distributor... lo and behold, the rotor was loose. I went to tighten it, only to find that the flathead screw holding it in place had somehow broken off (???) and that part of the screw was still in its place in the camshaft body (or whatever you call where the rotor goes). Would it be a bad idea to drill this out? Am I (excuse the pun) screwed?

after you take off the distributor, there is a small flathead screw on the rotor. this is what is broken.

right on.
In the mean time, would it hurt anything to apoxy/glue/krazy glue the rotor into place (avoiding contacts, duh) so that the car doesn't sit stationary while i wait?

Resurrecting an old thread:
Does anyone know where I can find a rotor with the adapter already installed? It is getting close to tune-up time, and this is on the top of my list.
