Angry shift boot help

tried to put my new shift boot on today , what a pain in the A$$. I tried to heat up the boot with a heat gun, I tried to put tire mounting lube on the inside of the boot and the shift knob, I couldn't get it either way and I wound up tearing a couple of the stitches in the seam, I worked at it for a good hour or so. Am I doing something wrong or what?

Sounds like mine. I put it in the microwave to heat it up. Slid it in real slow and grabbed the top edge with a needle nose pliers to pull it the rest of the way. Took like an hour of working it to get it on.

I used a little of that noxious yellow 3M weatherstripping glue. Held like magic within seconds while I jammed it under the cap.

I would've never done that job knowing what I know now.

I tell you what, that was like trying to put a condom on an elephant, it just isn't going to work. I too used a plier to try and pull it up. finally I just said the hell with it, slid the boot down, put a rubberband around it and put it back together. I may try it again someday, but not anytime soon.

Did you guys turn the boot inside out first? What brand of boot did you buy? Heard that some boots are a tighter fit than others, IIRC, Alga was the best fit. I need to do this soon.
