complete rewire
Curious to see if anyone has tried to re-wire their 944 from scratch?
I'm inclined to try this on my 924S. Being a dedicated race car, the amount of wiring would have to be fairly minimal.

Sounds like a cool idea. My friend recently wired up a 240sx that he had completely stripped down. He managed to clip out 15lbs worth of accessory wires. You might be able to do the same. I've also had a lot of electrical problems and was thinking about going over my wires as well. Good luck to you and I hope you succeed.

Thanks. I don't think I have a choice in the matter. The PO attempted the re-wire on his own which resulted in multicolored wires being strung all over the car.

Could anyone recommend a shop within a 100 mile radius of DC? Preferably a shop that's done this type of work before and if familiar with the wiring of these cars, etc.

I go to a shop called Pro-Imports, located in Rockville. They concentrate primarily on German and Japanese cars. Pretty nice people and they're performance oriented and they focus on keeping cars on the road for as long as possible. You can check them out at http://www.pro-imports.com/ I don't know how much rewiring they're capable of, but they managed to sort out a couple of my electrical problems (replaced a wire for my fuel pump relay and replaced my crank position sensors).

Rewire is a major undertaking to say the least! If it were not so involved I would replace every inch of wire. Porsche electronics are the worst IMHO! But as hot as these cars get it is amazing more wires don't melt so it does say a good thing for the harnesses but the corrosion factor has little to be admired.

I completely rewired a '77 924 once.
well...twice... well, no, two and a half times. It's not fun, but probably woulnd't have been too bad if I could have found the proper wiring harness in the first place. |

Eli, do what my brother said. Find a harness and start there. Maybe buy another parts car and take notes as you take it off the other car. You're only taking about the engine....not the lighting/stereo and what not. I don't see this as a tough job..only a little tedius maybe.
