sarcasm my friend. I agree with you.

Chris, I want to hear Project "Budget" Engine purr.

WaA420 06-01-2006 04:42 PM

Hey Jimbo Dean,

That is a cool title, sandwich assembler. I used to work at Taco Bell and my title was sour cream installer. I worked there until I got laid off because things got slow. Anyways, if you want I could put in a good word at the "Bell" and get you a really cool job. Let me know?

Russell

I was a cherry picker for a while, but that just became dangerous.

JimboDean 06-03-2006 12:48 PM

My food handlers permit has been banned for life.

WaA420 (whats that name stand for anyways......?)

I recently was fired from my cheese sandwich assembling job. Apparently removing the plastic wrapping from each slice of cheese slipped my mind somehow. I am now polishing fuchs for food. I also polish phonedials, cookies, and spare tire wheels.

Russel bring the sour cream # on sunday. Can't wait to put that beautiful engine in CChypers roller.

cchyper 06-05-2006 10:59 AM

Engine is in the car, my computer is not working at the moment but will be soon. I will post pictures asap...

cchyper 06-07-2006 12:54 PM

Well everyone, the project is nearing its end ... well at least the motor side. Here is the the pics, finally. I still havent fixed my computer at home so i am uploading it from the office.

I kinda feel like I am beating a dead dog posting these pictures, but here ya go....

OIL COOLER INSTALL:

- Brackets are aluminum
- Used plastic spacers to level the cooler
- 12AN fittings and stainless line.
- Make sure you mount it high enough that your not going to scrape the crap out of it when you roll over a pebble.

As of now it is very close to finish point, just need to finish up the last few little things.

Stock Exhaust to MSDS header... eays pie cut and weld resonator, fits great - stock hangers.

I hope the header wrap works for you. I have been reading allot on the Internet about header wraps vs. coating. I know everyone is going to have their own opinions but after reading a ton, I have come to my own conclusion that header wraps are not good. To make what I have found out short and simple, The header wraps retain to much heat to the header causing cracks and the will retain moisture causing rust. The coated headers do not physically heat up as much as they do stock because of the coating. Just my .02 cause I was trying to decide what to do to mine and Ive decided to go with the Jet-hot coating. Also thanks for posting everything you have been doing. I'm about to tackle a rebuild job and your posts have helped me out tremendously. I hope it runs as good as it looks.

ronin 06-12-2006 08:29 AM

JAYSUS! who's that burly Grizzly Adams-lookin' facker? man, I think I'd steer clear of him

cchyper 06-12-2006 09:29 AM

hahaha... ronin.

The header wrap may not be the best idea, but i did coat the header with a few coats of 2000 degree header paint then wrap it and then coat it again. I just didnt want to spend 250 dollars on ceramic coating. I am running low on $$$.

What is this jet-hot coating? Cost?

thanks,

chris

p.s my next project is to build a front splitter that jets all the way to the sub frame... hopefully it will deflect dirt, water and grim, be aerodynamically effecient, or just make my car fly...

I think i can make something that will deflect grime from the header. maybe...

mscromer 06-12-2006 09:51 AM

I know what you mean on running out of money. Jet-hot is an actual brand name of exhaust coating. Here is the company I was looking at to send my headers to I got an estimate from them of about $160.00, I think, I cant remember exactly. Or here is another company I looked at http://www.thermaltechcoatings.com/ they are going to cost about $125.00 according to their price list on the web site. They use CERMAKROME for their coating, they coat the inside and out. You can read on both web sites the results of the coatings, They are both about the same. You can google " exhaust header coatings" And find even more and maybe one local to you. Good Luck.

cchyper 06-14-2006 09:44 AM

well... the prestart gitters are setting in. I have had 2 days this week to go work and progress the project. BUT, i have been coming up with things to keep me away from it...

Only things left to do:
- Master Cylinder Resevoir
- Distributor Cap
- Oil temp Sensor
- Plug Air Fuel Ratio wire to O2
- Mount Seats
- Alternator Tensioner
- Water Temp Sensor
- Mount Power Steering Pump
- Mount DME

ae1969 06-14-2006 09:59 AM

Very nice. ITs looking great.

I am sure you know this....... but pull the dme relay. Crank the bugger until you see oil pressure rise. Then fire away.

cchyper 06-14-2006 10:28 AM

oh, actually i hadnt thought of that... not a bad idea.

chris

pokey 06-18-2006 10:47 AM

Pull the spark plugs when you are first cranking, too. It'll spin a lot easier, build pressure faster, and is easier on the engine.

cchyper 06-19-2006 07:57 AM

so the motor wont start ... but its not because of spark... its because there is not enough fuel getting in the combustion chamber. i dont know what it is ... could be FPR or Dampner maybe fuel pump... there is fuel in the fuel rail, but i dont have a fuel pressure gauge to check the pressure.. i will have to get one. all was well before the motor was lifted ... but we will see...

just cranks and almost starts ... sput sput sput wants to start pretty bad ... but not enough fuel.

mscromer 06-19-2006 09:57 AM

Sorry to hear it didnt start right of the bat. I know that had to suck to not have it fire off, after all the great work you've done. Sounds like you are on the right path to fix it though. Good luck!

cchyper 06-19-2006 10:43 AM

thanks, hopefully it is something easy... i am getting one of those lindsey fuel pressure gauge kits to see if i am getting enough pressure. I dont know why the damn thing isnt getting fuel in there.

A friend thinks its the pump... but would there be fuel in the fuel rail if it was the pump?

another friend thinks it the fuel pressure reg or the dampner.

what do you think?
