Need a little help with wiring (should be easy)

OK two softballs, guys. Thanks.

Ok, I'm almost at the point where I can start this thing (engine has been removed and replaced with an older block). Anyhow, I'm running the last of the wiring and found that I need to hook up the main ground. There's one in the battery box, but where on the engine does this go? Where the other grounds are (near the bell housing??)

Also, how many wires are supposed to go to the starter? I hooked up a small ware to the solenoid, and a bigger wire that appears that it belonged with it to the other post. I realize that this is always supposed to be hot, so I need to jack it up and run the final one from the battery which I'd forgotten. What is the other big wire or (not the solenoid?)

- the ground in the battery box bolts up to a bolt in that area...... up against the firewall.......... you should see grounds bolting up on the other side of that same bolt on the the other side of the firewall....l......

- 2 big wires and 1 little wire

1 little (for solenoid) + 1 big from alternator ........ 1 big from battery

Really? My negative wire is like a "Y" with a longer side. One part goes to the firwall obviously, the other is long enough to reach the back of the motor, but I can't recall where it goes.

Gotcha on the starter, thanks

Goes on the back of the engine on the battery side. Depending on the year (and the month of the year is some cases) the ground cable can go directly to the back of the engine with a leg going to the fire wall. Or to the fire wall with a seperate strap going from the fire wall to the back of the engine.

Best to make sure the engine is grounded to the chassis otherwise all the cranking amps goes through the DME. Tends to burn them out.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Maybe I'm mixed up since the new motor is older. I'll look it over closer tomorrow.

Thanks

On the early bodies, the engine is grounded to a post on the firewall. On later cars, it is grounded to the battery. In both cases, the bolt for the ground wire on the block is located near the elbow for the heater valve, but on the block instead of on the head.

For the starter, you normally have 1 small wire for the solenoid, 1 large wire from the battery, 1 medium-large wire from the alternator.

.
Yeah, what a pain, I figure this out only after every thing else was hooked up. I can't count how many times I've had to remove the bracked for the speed and reference sensors. LOL.

JOb was easy, just had to avoid dropping the bold into the flywheel inspection hole. LOL.

What crazy engineer figured out how to cram all this stuff into the tinest space possible?
