968 trans in a 944

Can you put a 6 speed 968 trans in an 88 944 without any major alterations?

This is one of those questions you should use the search button for.

I beleive it is a direct swap except for needing a different halfshaft and the speedo sensor is different.

Sheet metal surgery in the spare tire well is required. The 968 tranny is longer. Somebody here put a whole 968 engine/drivetrain into a 924S. As I recall, he said his car was now a little faster!!

What I'd really like to know, is how feasable is a 928 to 924S manual tranny swap?

what is it with some people and "use the search button" Pelican is a great sight, though the search will turn up every single mention of transmission and 968 and 944 - hmm, just about every post in this thread.

I appreciate the second 'constructive' portion of your reply, obviously in the time I've been using Pelican, I know how and when to "search".

great site? not sight? 968 tranny is awesome in a 944, adds another overdrive gear basicly allowing you to get to top speed alittle bit faster

A 968 engine coupled to an "S" transmission with its low gearing makes for quite a shockingly fast off-the-line car. Especially for a 944. Not an easy conversion though. There's a guy on this board with one - I've driven it. Very nice setup.

968 stuff is pretty hard to come by though.

968 drive in a 924S?
I'm off to find that thread.
Why can't 968s be as easily availible as 944s?
Well I know the answer to that.... but still don't we all want one?

PM if you don't find the Tranny post.

928's Engine won't fit it the 924S. Tranny's a thought but got no idea on those.
