Memo: Gas in eyes = bad

Ok so well i just got out of the E-room because while attempting to remove the gas tank from my (now overturned) parts car, Gas got into my eyes. Had to sit with these odd things in my eyes and some saline for about 40 min while they flushed out. I'll have a appointment tomorrow to make sure my vision is ok (which they said it should be).

So what did we learn today? When playing with gas, dont do it near fire, and always wear goggles. I'll post some pics of the parts car and the "modifications" i've made to it in the last few days in a bit.

i feel your pain.

yes, gas will get you like that. reminds me of when i was cleaning the top of a press tool, with a rag soaked with trichlorethelene.this is pretty nice stuff, anyway, as i'm washing away, the end of the rag whips around and a couple drops of this stuff go in my eyes. it felt like someone had stuck a knife right in my eyes. yes, no doubt my goggles would have been a life saver that day.

frying bacon once, hot grease splattered into my eyes... after flailing around the kitchen for a few seconds, the pain went away... luckily.

glad you're ok! keep us posted..

It may not be the absolute worse, but IcyHot is not fun in the eye. It still feels cold and hot even in your eye, took about 30 min, for the stinging to go away.

I have a Jack Daniels story too....After a lot of Jack Daniels one time, I looked over at what was lying next to me the next morning. My eyes hurt for a week! Had some temporary blindness for a while too.

By the way, its a great design that you need to reach way up there to swap out the fuel filter. Tons of gasoline coming straight down on you. Very safe - and fun!

Yep, I've done that as well with the saline dripping off the back of my neck. Were yours the ones that are like contact leses (i.e. actually sit on top of your eyeball)?

Got battery acid splashed in my eyes when a hydrometer broke. Had my contacts in.
The worst part was trying to get them out so I could flush my eyes.

I was doing some rust fixing on a 914 and got some fine shavings in my eye and didn't know about it. I happened to have an eye doctor appointment the next day, so the doc used a big effin' scary needle to pick the metal out of my eye. I've never been so scared in all of my life.

I think I remember AFJuvat telling a story about getting gas in his ear once while doing a fuel filter... chemically burnt his eardrum iirc
