really stupid question
hey all...I'm wondering what the condenser/cooler in the front the car is... a mechanic told me its the A/C condenser, but I thought that is attached to the engine lid? Could it be the oil cooler up front then?
nevertheless, the fan which is accessible thru the trunk lid is all cracked up and doesn't turn on.... its an 85 targa... thanks david |

I'm going to say its the AC. from what I can remeber about the last time I was in the trunk of a 911.
But as far as under the hood time.. mine is mostly all watercoolers (this includes a 996 or two also... Since we have this thread here anyways- how about the rest of you front engined water cooled crowd... how much do we know about 911's you say? This is not including those of us who own a 911 or two..

On the 85' 911 targa, with "factory" air conditioning: You have two condensers. The primary one is on the engine deck lid. The secondary one is on the underside of the "tub" or bottom of the car near the front bumper: the secondary unit has a perforated sheetmetal cage covering it, and it has a blower fan located near the battery that sucks air in from the front bumper area and blows it down across the condenser. You also have an oil cooler located in the RH (that is the passg. side on a LH .. left hand drive atypical US car) front fender area near the tire. Drop on over at the 911 tech forums and there are plenty of interesting posts on the 911 air conditioning system. |
