Not the usual odometer topic...

Of course the odo in my '77 924 was inop, so I did the research and took it apart on Saturday. Lo and behold, it was not what I was led to believe. What had happened was one of the set of six gears across the top that turn the odo digits (not the trip odo)had worn to the point of jamming in the digit gear for single miles. Really, it had worn down because it is in contact all the time with the digit wheel and had just worn away. Strange. Anyhow, I took all of the gears off the shaft and swapped the mile gear with the 10,000 mile gear, so it works like new. Until I turn over another 100k, I guess. Next I think I'll tackle the loose shift knob...
