Cruise Control help, please
If someone has a working cruise, 85.5 or later, and has a minute to look at the servo unit I would appreciate their response.
My question is if you undo your cable does the spring pull the lever into the position shown toward the passenger side fender or should it pull the opposite of this?????? ![]() Last edited by CPorsche; 02-22-2005 at 06:39 PM.. |

The accelerator pedal keeps the servo lever pulled all the way down (opposite of what it is in the picture). As soon as I press the accelerator the servo lever begins to move in the direction as indicated by the arrow on the servo unit (toward the passenger fender). As soon as the lever moves out of the down position the servo unit begins to run. You can push it back to the down positon and it shuts off. You can feel it running through the gas pedal, it kind of pulls and lets go and makes a popping noise. If you let off the accelerator cable the it pulls the lever down and the unit shuts off, but as soon as you press the accelerator the servo starts running again.
I have tried 3 of the cruise control boxes and this does not change anything. If the servo lever would stay parked in the down position then the unit would not run, that is why I am trying to find out if the spring is suppose to make the lever move up or stay down. Thanks |

It is hard to believe no one knows if the spring, on the sevo lever, moves the lever and if so which direcition.
I have posted this at Rennlist and cannot get an answer there either. Must be a tough question. |

NO.
The lever has no spring action. Normal park position is to 90 degrees form your pic towards the driver side. You should be able to move the lever back and forth from that position by 90 degrees. Here is the pic of my working CC actuator in park position. ![]()

Thanks so much for your reply. I assume your cruise works fine. My spring pulls mine into the position shown in my picture. As I stated previously the servo motor starts running as soon as the gas pedal is pressed, because the arm moves in the direction of the arrow. I am going to pull mine apart tomorrow and try to figure out why the spring moves the arm, I assume it should not if yours doesn't. Thanks again for your reply and picture. I have this posted at Rennlist for since 2-21, had a couple of guys say they would check theirs and never did. They seem to be more interested in OT post. |

no spring action?
both the one on my car and a spare that i have spring back in the direction the arrow points. why is the spring there if it's not supposed to control the arm? not questioning you, just my cruise doesn't work and i'm wondering if that's the problem.
