I've got the same kit in my '87 n/a with the same exact problem.
If you nail it at anything below 2500rpm, it bucks and hesitates.
Runs fine after 3000rpm.
I contacted Andrew at Promax and he said the new chip increases fuel mixture by 10%. I tried an adjustable FPR, but no difference.
I also think it is a vacuum problem and I'm in the process of replacing the IAC and vacuum lines.
If you find a solution, please post.

I'm not familiar with this MAF setup, do you guys have a link to a website with some more information about the unit? Just from the sounds of it I would say it's a fuel mapping issue, either you're lean or rich. Do either of you guys have an wideband O2 or have a dyno with tach vs A/F?

are you guys using the chips with it? i know this system uses an AFM emulator. Basically it mimicks the AFM. The DME is tricked. I myself thought about using the system, but I think their are limitations with it. You're not getting full performance with this setup, that I think can be had.

If you are using the performance chips, something is wrong with the chip. If you are using a stock chip, then you have something wrong with your engine.

You should be able to use any chip with it, because the chip is not written as a MAF chip, it is an AFM chip. So try and swap it out with the stock chip and compare.

I'd suspect something in the chips - fuel-map related most likely. Can you datalog it and see whether you're running too rich or lean as you pass through 2,500 RPM? Most likely that's your problem and the chip map needs to be adjusted to compensate for the condition.

Wouldn't it be more of a problem with the signal interpreter from the MAF? If the car ran properly on whatever chips it has then when you add the MAF the A/F gets skewed and bogs it would seem that the ECU is getting an improper air meter reading.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
I'm using the chip supplied with the kit. Have a spare DME with the stock chip and it runs poorly with that set-up.
As JPG & P-O-P stated, I think it's a fuel map issue. The only time I have the symptoms is WOT below 2500rpm, otherwise runs great.
I'm in contact with Promax trying to resolve. Will post.

My suggestion to you would be to send your "performance" chip to Russell Berry ( www.maxhpkit.com ). He can check itout and find the problem The guy is a genious whe it comes to chips.

I think your problem is the cam. i'm sure the chip is not a custom chip. The chip was made for use with a stock cam.

Russell can custom make you a chip to work with your WHOLE setup, everything you have done.

What I would do, since you seem to be going pretty far with mods, is get in contact with him and buy the Maxtronic with a custom tune for your car. That way when you upgrade something new, all you have to do is download a new tune form him.

i'm 'new' enough to not know exactly who they're talking about, but i do know its in reference to the horrible horrible english... which also kind of irks me but i know there are others here to whom english is a second langauage, so i try to keep quiet on that.

In the world of aftermarket modifications, there's "good" and there's "cheap". You must learn this difference young Grasshopper.

It's a referance to Alina, a troll that likes to hang out here instead of staying under bridges scaring goats like they should do.
