The front of the car needs to be raised, then the engine lowered out from the bottom. If you don't like the looks of that, you can search the forum and find the horror stories of people that have tried to pull them from the top ![]() Good luck! -Nick

A few tips when removing from the top:
Remove the hood; 4 bolts and 2 shocks. Leave the steering rack loose after removing the steering linkage. Remove the fans and radiator. Once the engine is supported from above, remove the engine mounts from the engine block. You will have to tilt the engine a fair amount, (forward and backward, and left to right) to clear the headlight assembly, and it is a tight fit. Go slow, have help, and don't bang the oil pan. Everything else is covered in Clarks-Garage. There are two 'rings' on the engine to be used for lifting. One is at the back of the valve cover, and the other is near the left front engine mount. Good luck JM ![]() Last edited by JRMock; 01-18-2007 at 03:57 AM.. |

I dropped my 2.5L out from the bottom while still attached to the cross member. After the motor was on the floor I lifted the front of the car with the engine hoist and slid the motor out by hand. The motor was dropped onto a piece of plywood so it slid out pretty easy.

I took my engine out the top. I had already removed the clutch housing, but it won't slide off the back of the engine until you loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine a bit so it will tilt back. It's a tight fit, but it will come out. Hood has to be removed as previously stated. Went back in through the top with clutch housing in place, but it was a very tight fit. Being able to tilt the back of the engine down was key.

I have done it both ways.......
For some reason I liked it from above....... but the bottom is actually easier.

out the top twice for me. Only hitch was because I wasent told i had to remove some bolts that I didnt know existed. Other than that, the natual weight of the engine tilted it for me and out the top it came, easy as pie. Remove the radiator and there will be no prob

I pulled mine from the top as well. I have an automatic and I think that gave me a little more clearance but it was really easy to pull it from the top. Take the radiator out and I pulled the crossmember but I'm not sure I had to.
