1) Whats the most effective way to find a vacuum leak?
2) My '44 has the lovely 'Porsche Lightbar' proudly displayed across the back. How can I get behind it to restore it to its former glory? 3) What are my chances of successfully doing piston rings by supporting the motor on top and pulling the oil pan? 4) My passenger-side window motor seems a little tired..can I give it some spunk or is it possible that the window trim is bogging it down? (Silly question, I know.) 5) Who needs e-brake shoes in an automatic....really? ![]()

1) I found mine with a length of nylon tubing, stuck one end in my ear and moved the other end around the engine bay until I heard a hissing sound..
2) if it's like my "944" light bar, it unscrews from behind the carpet in the hatch.. but the red reflector surface is all one piece on the backing... i just took the lights out and sloshed some soapy water in it.. 3) no clue. 4) my window motor seems "tired" too.... some wd40 got it to work, but still seems very lazy (and loud!).. i'll probably need to replace the whole thing... used ones are cheap... 5) when you're parking on an incline.. i've seen an automatic car start to roll down a hill before, believe it or not..

3) Someone just asked this question, i wouldnt even bother trying to do it.
removing cross member under oil pan 4) Remove the door panel and clean the contacts on the window motor connector. Spray silicone lube on both window tracks and spray the heck out of the lifter mechanism with white lithium grease. 5) Its always good to use the parking brake even if its an automatic. Parking on a incline and seeing a car 'bounce' into park as the driver takes the foot off the brake always makes me cringe. Its probably not doing anything bad... but ive heard many times the only thing that keeps a car in park is a very small pin. Whether or not that is true is beyond me.

1). You can use the tube method as Kyle already mentioned; another way is to spray WD40 around suspected areas and see if the rpms go up on the motor.
2) refer to Kyle's post 3) Not a good idea. For that much work, it's best to pull the motor as everything has to come loose anyway. 4) follow Techno's advice 5) I agree with Techno...Park won't always hold a car on an incline. Sometimes, the transmission will slip (bad word but I'm not sure what to call it) and the car will roll anyway. Fixing that brake should be no problem for a young man of your talents!

The pin in 'park' can break and force the car to roll down a hill.
It's ugly.
