steering rack removal issue

Havin a bit of a problem removing my old steering rack for a 1985.1 944. Seems the steering gear will not retract from the steering rack once I undo all the other retaining clamps. Tried to pry it but won't budge!!!! Any suggestions? Little frustrated!!!!
Thanks.

Where the Steering Gear Universal Joint attaches to the shaft of steering rack. I do not have pictures due to the fact that it is kind of hard to see (tight space). BTW...thanks for getting back so quickly.

Tap a small chisel inbetween the pinch on the end of the steering shaft. Use a pry bar to gently pull the two apart.

Thanks...I will give it a shot! Used a screwdriver previously but I don't think it had enough "spread".
Thanks again!

yes, i got a long piece of steel, about 1/2 dia x 14'' long. i ground one end to a chisel point, then tapped it into the slot, this will open the dia, and allow the steering gear to drop. remember to mark the relationship between shaft , and housing, for re-assembly. boy, is that a lot of fun !
