The more power they make, the more complicated they get. Yes, the turbos are all interference motors.

Oh, BTW, according to my local GTR owner... 375 is only a baseline/starting point...

The Carrera GT has 944 front quarter panels, so yes, that front bumper would work on a 944. The rears are 924 quarter panels, cut, and then with the wider wheel arches attached.

I'd love a Carerra GT replica on a 931.

The vented nose panel is the same as the one from the 924 Turbo and is a direct fit onto the 944 and other 924's. The only PITA is drilling the spot welds off of the 931. They are tough to find also, but keep an eye on eBay and they come around every few months.

The cost of the front body parts will cost you in the area of a running, good condition 944. The inner bumper support bar which is unique to the 937 is $900 through Sunset Porsche. The bumper cover is $3200 through Pelican, i would bet its about $2900 through Sunset. Unfortunetley most of the mounting parts have unique 937 part numbers which means big $$$. The advantage is these parts are polyurethane which is 100x more durable on the street than the fiberglass stuff. Though fitment isnt going to be a walk in the park, i bet they fit better than any of the fiberglass replicas available. But with the amount your about to pay for it, i would be scared to drive my car around.

Lovely cars, i would expect to pay upwards of $30k for a good condition GT here stateside. I would hate to know what the unique engine parts would cost you though!

I love the look of the CGT front. Fiberglass parts are readily available of these, even though their fit isn't the best,

Everyone always loves the look of euro bumpers, but for the price of finding one and importing it you could switch to this bumper.

I would almost be willing to dive right into a CGT replica this summer and sink money into a 931. Afterall, I work with composites, the fiberglass wouldn't scare me (although the urethane is alluring, those prices are outrageous.)

But for the money I would put into one I could have a reliable 968.

Everyone says the 968 is the ultimate evolution of the 924 but I think the CGT was a definite high point..

Besides the turbo, intercooler and piping, ISnt the motor just a 924 motor with lower compression pistons??? Looks almost the same. That kinda power out of a little 2.0 engine like that is SWEEEETtTTTT, they must be running serious BOOST

Nope the series 1 931 ('79-'80) was 7.5:1 with a big turbo and the series 2 was 8.0:1 with a slightly smaller turbo ( and digital ignition iirc).

from memory the boost was still modest. the euro 931's sat on 10lbs boost ( i think a US spec is 6lb??) and the 937 was about 12-13lbs boost. pretty crazy ah?! just shows what an i/c and a little bit more boost can do to a normal 931

there are guys on 924board running 14lb boost with an i/c no worries, and theyre US/ Can spec.

the 931 head is a better all-round. bigger valves, better head design = flows better. the sparkplugs are moved from the exhaust side (924) to the intake side (931). And of course the cast pistons are different irt compression drop and change to interference design. the bottom end is all the same and the camshaft is still the same as the 924.
iirc the standard crank is forged and the pistons have squirters.

it got an oil cooler as well.

there were rumours the 931 head was what the 924 was going to get but they were scared off by cost and by the performance threat to the base 911 of the time ( remember its 1975).
the time difference in esign and implementation isnt that silly when you think that there was a twincam 944 turbo engine being used in a 924 in 1981 and the prod 944 turbo came out in '86

the 931 head was hand assembled at Stuttgart.

Hi All, finished work pretty late last night, went to see the car, but my phone camera can't take any good pictures at night. I am off work tomorrow and will definitely get some pics, inside and out.

Few things, did some reading last night and the CGT only came in 3 colors, red, black and silver, this is some kind of pearl off white. Kind of worrying. However the body parts are PU, not fiberglass. Interior is a mess ... mouldy, to the point of being furry. Think the interior has been redone. The door panels are pinstripe, but the seats are black cloth. It has an aftermarket Porsche Design 3 spoke steering wheel.

Promise to get photos of it up tomorrow chaps.

Have a feeling this Porsche (if it proves to be a real CGT), will be my next car.

Thanks

hmm.. well yeah, sounds like the front seats have been changed. the doors and cloth inserts on the front and rear seats should be a pinstripe and piping combo unique to the cgt.

cant help you with the colour. best way to tell is to get the vin number from the engine bay and decode it via the net.

The Porsche 924 Carrera GT, model 937, were designed by the factory for homologation for Le Mans. The project number was 937. Only 406 were built.
The chassis numbers run from WPOZZZ93ZBN7 00 001 to 406. WPO is the world manufacturer code for Porsche. ZZZ tells us this is a Europe/RestOfWorld spec model. 937 is the internal Porsche model designation for the 924 Carrera GT. Z is a test code. B is model year 1981. N is the factory at Neckarsulm.

SSSHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

All this accurate and complimentary information on the 924 on the Pelican site is going to drive up the prices!!! I won't be able to get $200 parts cars anymore!!! Please delete this thread and start a thread in the 911 section about how the whole 924 range is useless!!! Or at least go back to talking about the 944 and leave the 924 discussion to the 924Board where nobody sees it...

LOL...

The NA can also be run using the 931 head, which gets better flow and can make more power - but requires custom pistons due to the aforementioned combustion chamber redesign. Factory did it back in '79-81 or so, made about 180-odd hp in race trim IIRC (too lazy to look it up on my own website, go figure). 2.0L NA, BTW.

But yeah, 924's suck, you don't want one of those things, bust your butt just to get 'em to run and you're still stuck with a slow, over-built rusty VW.

So, in essence, you can trade over the head and pistons from the 931 and make yourself a pretty sweet power-house...

Oh yea, 924's are terrible. What a waste of space those cars are. Useless...

I think a cheaper and easier increase in power would probably be to just buy a 924S or 931 in the first place

Of course.

No, you don't want to swap in just the head and pistons - generally speaking, you'd lose compression over stock. Makes much more sense to bump the CR up, maybe 9.5 or 10... or 11.3:1 like Porsche and Holbert did!
