Question What sort of 924 is this?

Hi, I don't know much about the 924, been a 911 owner for 4 years now. Was thinking of buying a 924 Turbo as a second car. Came across one 1981 model bulging arches over the rear wheels, fuchs, and a huge bonnet scoop feeding an intercooler (did not think the 924 Turbo had an intercooler), also had a dog leg gearbox. I will try and get some pics up soon.

The car has been sitting for about 2 years and is a bit rough.

Car looks very, very aggressive. Is this just a tarted up 924 or is it something different?

Thanks

Prithvi

If its real, you are looking at an awesome car... Carrera GT. One of my dream cars. What country is this car located in?

I believe you are looking at a 937, the 'regular' (if you can even call an awesome car like that regular) Carrera GT model. Im not surprised the car is in Singapore, a few of them seemed to be there. I know of atleast one other 937 located there as well as the ultimate 924 evolution, the GTR.

This car was for sale recently (maybe a year ago) state side and is probably very similar to what you are looking at..

I cant remember where this one is located, but also state side in a museum collection somewhere..

I envy you for having the chance to find a car like this!

Check out the 924Board.org forums. There are a very broad based group of guys out there, many of which own, or know more about the Carrera GT model cars than anyone on here.

This car is / was for sale in Japan

Here is the 937 GTR located in Singapore somewhere..

Good god, the 937 is a mean-looking car.

That is the one, even has the Carrera script on the side, which I thought was wrong. I will definitely get some pics up this evening. Be forewarned the car I am looking at is in a sorry state, been sitting for some time. Quite excited, this is a RHD car and from the link posted there were only 75 made! Cool !! Getting quite excited about getting my second Porsche!! Are the Carrera GTs worth much??

If it is in close to decent condition.... absolutely.

I just noticed in that first photo, it's sitting next to a new CGT.

I have wanted to build a replica for years now, based off a 924S.

how do we know this is a REAL 937? Couldn't it just be standard 924 with bodywork?

Prithvi, if you can get more pictures of that GTR aswell as more video of it running, that would be amazing!

CJ, not sure if your refering to the GTR, but if you are. There were alot of pictures of the car that show its legit.

It also sounds 100% authentic! Here are what i have saved on my computer..

Here are the additional pictures of the car that was for sale. This car was located in a Japanese car museum. I dont remember what the asking price was as the ad has since been taken down. The description did say the car was never raced however.

And its possible this is the same car aswell, but im not sure.

As for what these things go for, i think the regular 924 CGTS went for under $40k when it was on eBay. There was a GTR for sale in Vegas for $250k

Just some interesting info about these awesome and very rare cars.

Hey Jon, I don't think they are the same car, I last saw the car about 2 years ago and it was far from running ..... the one in the clear picture (which was for sale) is in Japan, looking at the number plate of the car next to it. When I last saw the GTR, my wrench said the owner was getting the parts to restore it. I will try and find out more.

Prithvi, after looking at the pictures again i edited my posts . I remember now the car for sale was in Japan and never raced as per the description.

The car you saw apparently is running now as videos of it were posted on the 924Board.org forum. It sounds awesome!

The Carrera GT bumper is the perfect blend between euro 944 bumpers and the S2/951 bumper.

Also, does the vented nose panel match up with normal 944 fenders, or is the line across it higher up like the 951's? I cannot tell from the pictures.

Those 2.0L engines look decidedly easy to work on compared to out 2.5's. are the 931 or 937 engines interference? I know that the 924 is not...

The GT was an 8.5 CR, 210HP engine.
The GTS was an 8.0 CR, 275HP engine.
The GTR was a 7.1 CR, ........ 375HP engine.

Yikes. Even the 'plain' GT was still as powerful as the 86 951 would come to be... Mindedly less torque I am sure though.
