Can't find a part number...HELP?!?

I can't find a part number for this item I removed from the 944 turbo I'm parting out. Apparantly Porsche had an agreement with Mueller to use gas valves to shut off the antifreeze as it exits the back of the engine....

In all seriousness, does anyone have any clue as to why someone would rig this thing up?

Leaking heater core. I guess using a gas valve for liquid is like using galvanized pipe or aluminum tubing for natural gas or black pipe for water.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

All of the ball valves I've seen are gas rated for some reason. I think that the one he is showing the pic of is the same one sold at Home Depot for plumbing purposes. Probably an excellent choice for the application - reliable, good flow, and solidly built. Just one problem... oh yeah... IT LOOKS LIKE CRAP UNDER THE HOOD OF A PORSCHE. And it kinda sucks having to pop the hood to get heat.

nate

(and I don't see any teflon tape on the pipe fittings, woops)

Don't you worry nate, there's teflon making sure nothing leaks out around those threads. I just thought it was odd to find a part from home depot under the hood...
