1987 944 compression specs
Hey I picked up a 87 944, it needs the usual water pump replaced, I ran a compression test and was curious what the cylinders should be in PSI?.. I can seem to find this info anywhere. It is stock. Non turbo. Thanks

130ish, i *think*. more importantly, the cylinders should have similar compression.

Thanks

Compression = (Compression Ratio minus one) to the 1.1 to 1.2 power multiplied by Atmospheric Pressure
http://www.type2.com/library/engineg/comrat.htm That formula doesn't make a lot of sense to me with their chart with a range. Anyway... 6.5:1 is 96 -114 7.0:1 is 106 -126 7.5:1 is 115 - 139 8.0:1 is 125 - 152 That chart only goes to 8.0 and the CR for the 87 944 n/a is 9.5:1. I would guess 180 PSI to be real close to right on, if not right on, based on this info. Sounds like you should be good. And as it was already pointed out, all cylinders are close, so that is good.

When I bought the car, the guy gave me a cd manual, it seems good, looks old school, anyway It says it should have 145psi and up, found that just a few minutes ago. I also found out the water pump is locked up solid!, timing belt has some slack in it too.... oh boy the fun is about to begin.

I have an 87, I think they are REAL easy to work on. I see you have 88 posts, where they about this car or another car? www.clarks-garage.com. Go there, TONS of detailed info. I have a copy of the Porsche manual and the PET if you need it also.
