Another stupid question
I have a brown coolant tank that i can't see through to tell what my coolant level is. I have thought about spending the $100 odd dollars to replace it but I'd rather spend that money on go fast goodies. If I over fill it will the extra just dump out into the wildlife refuge or what? What happens if your coolant level gets low and you can't tell because you can't see the level - I'm guessing not good things.

low coolant will definitely cause problems. you could try to find a good used one. i bet you can get one for a good price. or you can just keep an eye on the level of the fluid by removing the cap every so often.

mine is yellow too...
it's tough to see through, but try cleaning the *outside* of the reservoir, then to look at the level just jiggle the car up and down. overfilling it, if your reservoir tank, cap, and hose are all hooked up correctly, will cause the excess liquid to just shoot out the drain hose coming out of the cap area. letting it go low isn't good. if it gets low enough, you'll have a very expensive fog machine that will take a lot of deniro $$ to convert back into a car.

True about taking the cap off but the level isn't all that easy to see as it layers out in my brown tank. I fully understand this is a pointless thread. When it is all over I'm going to order a new tank anyway, and the bigger turbo and methanol injection will just have to wait.

Shine a flashlight in the top of it and squeeze the top hose so it pushes the water back to the tank. You should be able to see the level that way with the coolant flying around.

Use a light as mentioned. But go get a replacement from a salvage car or dismantler, much cheaper if you look for one. Or remove it and have it steam cleaned, then give it a try.

Many come up on EBAY. Something under $20 plus shipping should get you one. Be patient.

I've sold a few expansion tanks on eBay that I picked up at the wrecking yard. In virtually all cases, I was able to get them back to almost pure white by scrubbing the inside with a bottle brush.
You might try removing yours and giving it a good cleaning. |

take it out, plug up the two holes and fill it with bleach, put the cap back on and put it in your bathtub (which is full of water and bleach) overnight.
i filled my coolant tank with bleach after i did the oil cooler seals, it got all the milkshake out and my tank is almost brand new. Nice and white.
