Changing spark plug wires?
I have a 1985.5 944 n/a. I am in the process of changing the stock wires with wires from Lindsey racing. I've managed to replace wires 1-2-3, but the #4 wire seems to be routed under the fuel rail. Is there an easy way to remove this wire other than cutting it?
Also my coil has a plastic cover it that is also hard to remove. What is the best way to remove the plastic cover, so I can also change out the coil wire? |

Welcome to the board...
If the wires you are changing out are factory BERU wires, the end of the wire has a threaded fitting that screws into the spark plug boot thingy. Just unscrew it. The Lindsey Racing wires are also constructed using BERU connectors, but I wouldn't take them apart if I didn't have to.
The plastic coil cover has a snap at the bottom of the flange. Unsnap it, pull it apart far enough to clear the wires and pull straight up. NOTE: When you install the new coil wire, make sure you route it so it does not interfere with the headlight bucket mechanism. Disconnect the battery. Raise and lower the headlights using the manual knob on the motor. You don't want to use the motor to electrically raise and lower. You will be pi$$ed if you break the wire.

Thank you.
I didn't realize that the connectors would unscrew like that. I routed the new wires over the top of the fuel rail. I hope that will be ok? If not, let me know and I will pop off the new connectors and route them where the original wires went through. I am a little hesitant to take the coil cover off. There is not much room around there to pull it off. I definitely don't want to damage the wiring for the headlight motor. If all else fails, I will just take it up to Too Quicks in Tacoma and see if they will help me replace the coil wire. |

Hi, you can get the coil cover off yourself if you give it a try. It will be harder to put back on than taking it off so watch how you got it out of there. The space is tight but workable.
