Weird weird problems...
Ok.. car just got painted.. she got new doors and new hood because wiring for both were mangled by the PO.
Doors were from a 91 S2.. mines an 87 S Good thing.. With new doors and wiring.. the car chimes when i open the door to get out ... it never did before. Bad thing.. the lights never shut off... any idea why? Good thing.. paint looks awesome. Car is beautiful. Bad thing.. Drivers Locks dont work now.. passengers does lock .. but if i put the key in the drivers lock of the new doors i hear something inside going, like a relay.. but lock doesnt go up or down .. Yes i have the right key.. yes i have the wiring hooked up.. yes i am pre-emptively assuming that those questions were going to come up at some point ![]() Help? Central locking button doesnt work either.. Never did. Help? Good thing.. got new tires... Michelin pilot Sport cups. AWESOME. Bad thing.. Mirrors wont adjust now.. but im still using the ones from my old doors... they used to work!?!?!?! Help? Good thing.. got new fog lights for the front end (i have the turbo nose) Really clean and clear lenses, Nice new bulbs, actually better than the old ones.. because it has 2 lights per unit.. awesome... Bad thing.. only have wiring for one bulb per unit, yet the new foglights have two each side??!!! can that be sorted out? Can i split the wire and just run off of one lead? probably not eh.. blow a little too much power i would assume. Oh and i found a disconnected plug.. probably been that way since i got the car.. its photographed crapily but.. its between the clutch and the foot rest area at the back behind a black plastic case, The wires beside it are the connections for the door. My fingers are on the foot rest. ![]() This one shows how many pins it would take ![]() This is where it is located(sorry pic is sideways) ![]() Thanks guys for any help...! Appreciated! I'll help if I can...(first concern)
Which lights. Interior? If so, try a different switch position. There are two ground wires going up to that light. One is brown (unswitched), the other is brown with a stripe (switched by the door switch).
I have no idea what the body shop took apart, but those two ground wires could have been switched. If they were, the switch will work as before, except backwards.

Wiring to the overhead light ties into both driver and passenger door jam plungers, might want to remove them and clean the contacts. Additionally, they tie into the rear hatch light and rear defroster, you'll want to make sure the grounds on the hatch struts are intact and the rear hatch light wiring is correct as well.
I don't have power locks, so I can't help you there, ditto for the turbo fogs. The mirror issue is a head scratcher. When you swapped doors did you check the pins on the mirror wiring? May just be dirty contacts. Not sure where the mirrors draw their power from without looking at a wiring diagram... Best I can offer is to verify they are getting power and check for a blown fuse.

- Disconnect the battery. - Plug a 5-pin relay into the "G12" location in the fuse/relay box. - Add two 16GA or bigger wires from the fuse/relay box terminals "C31" and "C21" and run these to the extra lights. Doesn't matter which wire goes to which light. - Add a ground wire from each of the extra lights to a suitable location. All the other lights in front are grounded at the front frame rails, so ground the extra lights there. - Add a 15Amp fuse to position "9" if there isn't one already there. - Reconnect the battery and enjoy. This wiring duplicates the ROW cars lighting scheme and come on/off whenever the regular high beams come on/off. You don't need to add a switch or indicator that way - just like the ROW cars. Piece of cake. Easy as pie. Just like falling off a log.

I was hoping some one else would notice my new words.. haha
Thanks for the help on those items.. Ill be checking tomorrow to find out what might be the culprit. At least now i have a good way to start my search! Once again..thanks to all! any other help will be appreciated... P.s. it is the interior lights im talking about..and ive tried all switch positions.. to no avail!

also as you can see the wires are there just not routed to the front of the car possable or they may be i am not shure i will have a look at my usa car vs my ROW car. on has fog that light up with the flash to pass the others do not. both have not had wiring messed with. i will post up more on another thread or i may even do a writeupand host it on my website on how to do the ROW conversion for the EURO fogs. stay tuned
oh and thanks OnZedge for the head start on this i have euro fogs on my usa car and want both fogs and driving lights now i know how to do this ROW style.

The lights came off of a Japanese S2. Good call!
I put them on my Canadian 16v model. Doesnt have the right wiring. Neither does the Us model 16v The lights have Two "fog light" bulbs instead of one..and then a curious Extra little bulb off to the side of the second fixture. Im assuming that is the High beam one. ill be starting my day now.. so ill get back to you all about the rest. Myskyon...Thanks tons for the diagram! Livewirevoodoo... Ill be checking the grounds for the lights..but i am pretty sure i went over everything.. cant figure out why... the mirrors.. well.. they are the original ones.. they worked.. now they dont.. the wiring is perfect... weird... could it be the little joystick?? i didnt use the old one... OnZedge.. I dont have cruise.. probably the one.. thanks!

If they had the door panels off, the paint shop may not have reconnected the mirror adjustment switch. If the console was out, they may not have reconnected, or connected incorrectly, the mirror selector switch.

Hi Marcone,
I had a nearly identical situation to yours. Got the car painted and they replaced the door. All of a sudden I am having almost identical problems to yours - mirror and lock controls partially work, additionally my speaker on the door didn't work. It took me a while to figure it out. I finally determined that the idiots at the body shop did not remove the harness, they CUT IT AT THE DOOR!! I pulled back the flexible rubber boot that protects the wiring harness between the car body and the door and found that every single wire was cut and spliced. There are several identically colored wires internally. They decided to just splice the similar color wires together whether they were right or not. After several hours with a meter, I finally have all of the correct wires connected together and everything was fixed. Your symptoms and circumstances are so similar to mine that I would bet they did the same thing to your harness. Good luck. Kevin B. '87 951 '02 986 S |
