update on cooling problem

This is an update on my cooling problem.
When I initially replaced my thermo switch, I also replaced my 3 blade fan with a 6 bladed one.
What I didn't notice is that I had switched the positive for the ground, making the fan run in reverse. This in turn caused no fanning of the radiator. So if you still have a problem with non cooling , you might want to verify the polarity of the electrical lines to the fans. In the early 944, there is no "plug" for the 3 bladed fan, just a positive and ground wire that slip on.

You mean the single 3-blade early fans didn't have a hard plug for the motor? I swapped my double 3-blade unit for a double 6-blade. Except for the connectors being straight rather than right angled there is no way to reverse polarity unless you cut wires. Having the fans pushing would certainly cause some issues for sure.

The 6 bladed fan has a nice plug-in connector. Both of my 3 bladed fans have only two terminals that will take the cables a certain way ( one large, one small) but will fit on the 6 bladed fan at either side of the plug-in connector ( connectors being oversize for both sides of the plug-in).

I must have had a later 83 because mine had plugs that swapped perfectly (except the angle vs. straight) and there was a guide ridge on the plug to insure correct polarity. I also had factory power steering so maybe some changes were made in mid model year.

the old '84na had the single plug for each fan, which could go either way, affecting rotation of the fan.
