manual steering problem
I have manual steering (as opposed to power steering) in my '83. The problem is that the u-joints in the column are wearing out and there are no available Porsche replacements available anymore. And the power steering columns are a different length.
1) Has anyone replaced the u-joints on one of these? 2) If so, where can I get the replacements (I've heard there is a VW part available, but I dont know how to source this) 3)Does anyone have a column that I can get, cheap? ( currently on disability) 4) Any other suggextions or comments? Thanks Gordon

Hi, cheapest way may be to lengthen a power unit 3/4" to make it a manual length. The manual ones are harder to come by. I got an oversize rod and cut the diamiter down on a lathe to get the same diamiter and cut the manual one and welded in a 3/4" piece to bring it out to 16" in length.
