Can't find the ISV - 944S

Okay I give up. Thought I'd do some engine bay cleaning and stuff as the great weather continues here in PA. But when warmed up, the car seems to sit at about 1200RPM...I think this is a little high.

Time to start troubleshooting. Looking at the parts diagram for an S here on the Pelican site, I'm having an awfully difficult time finding the ISV on this car. Anyone got a pic?

I'm assuming ISV is the idle control valve? It's located under the intake manifold and can be seen by looking from the passenger side. It's very hard to get to and I've heard that you have to remove the intake manifold to service it - unless you have small hands.

Yep - The idle control valve. I was hoping someone wasn't going to say it was located there

If you are going to go in and replace, like I did, I would recommend ordering some new rubber/bolt/bushings. These are the same part that help your AFM 'hover'- a bolt on top and bottom with a rubber center. Mine were thrashed and I had to wait to order some in. I don't remember Pelican having these before but haven't checked in awhile. I think I found them at 944online.

You going to do it yourself or send it in?

Its against my religion to take the car to a mechanic.

I'm basically prowling for something to tinker on. From what I can see, the throttle switch is covered with a thin film of oil. I'm a bit frustrated at the throttle setup on 16 valve cars; they're foolishly complex for no apparent reason and the TS is almost buried under everything and considerably more difficult to access as opposed to the 8v cars. Jeez.

Okay. Fine. I'm probably gonna just take everything apart. Arnnworx says there's a few seals that go bad in the throttle body that cause the oil blow that could lead to the higher idle I'm having. The ISV will be tacked while I'm at it I suppose. This has weekend garage project written all over it!

Its quite common for it to get gunked up...I was tweeking things and after adding a hi flow cat the idle loped...I thought, WTF? So...I got a can of tb cleaner and ran it thru. On the top of the intake near the throttle cable there's a "port" I'll call it...I undid that, dumped some cleaner in and put her back on. The car smoked like crazy for about a block and a half, but it cured the idel lope, and the car has run A1 since.

Yeah, on the S you'll want to pull the intake to service the ISV or even the throttle (it is called "ISV" for 16V cars, btw).

It helps to remove it as one big assembly - see here:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=225497

With the manifold out there's a long list of things you could now do in addition to the ISV, of course (AOS seals, engine grounds, IM gasket, ref/speed sensor, TPS, throttle rebuild, temp sensor, vacuum lines, good time to rebuild injectors)

FYI - removing the IM the second time is really easy.
