1983 944 Wheels Upgrade

My 1983 Porsche 944 NA without power steering with 15 inches cookies cutters.

Will I be facing steering problem if I upgrade to 16 inches Fuchs , Phone Dials ,
etc. ?
I would like to install 205-55-16 to ease help steering as much as possible.

I had 17" wheels on my '83 when I bought it. The steering is only heavy when in a parking lot and trying to turn the wheels while barely moving. It really wasn't that terribly bad.

Hi, as long as the offset is the same or close I don't see any problem with the swap. Tires may be more expensive though with 16" wheels and your speedometer may be a little off as well. As far as your tire size that you want I can't be of any help there. I am running 15" fuchs on my 83 944 that are 8 wide in the rear and 7 wide in the front. Your cookie cutters are 7 wide front and rear.

Properly sized tires will prevent speedometer inaccuracies.

go with the 16" X 7" Fuchs with the proper offset and run the tire size you suggested. I have this set up on my '83 and love it. I upgraded from the 15" cookies.

Cookies are the way to go. Mount some 225's 60 15's on them and enjoy.

Everyone wants cookies, count yourself lucky to have them.

If I black them out, I'll post pics.

I agree. Original or nicely refinished cookie cutters really contribute to the car's originality and overall look. 16" Fuchs are beautiful, but very expensive. Your car looks great, Matt!

Here are some pics of my '83 when I had my powdercoated gray cookies on it. I choose gray instead of black to make the tire appear darker.

Yeah, your car looks great! Killer lawn too, man!

I like the cookies. I think they're a great looking wheel. Like the 15" PD, they are also pretty light.

Got 17" aftermarket turbo twists on mine runnin' Bridgestone pole position tires. I am happy. Parallel parking is always a little more effort w/o power steering. I have been drive this for 25 years; doesn't bother me.

if you want those late offset wheels on your car, count on spending some $$$ on proper spacers, or they will not work for you.

If Fuchs 16x7 are used on all 4 corners, what size tires are recommended for rear? How wide a tire would the fenders/7" width Fuchs allow?

thanks

the standard tire is a 205/55/16.

The next tire size could be a 225/50/16 and would maintain speedo error of 0.222%

I have never tried this size but I have heard they fit.

Thanks, ERAU944 for the warning of buying proper spacers.
Not only that , I might probably have to spend $$ on wheel bolts too.

I guess I will spend my money replacing somthing else.

On a black car the cookies look fine, either that or black fuchs.

phone dials are okay too.
