Hatchback seal
I may have accidently found a rear hatch replacement seal that is very economically friendly. One our the maintenance guys where I work gave me a short piece of 'gasket" they use around doors in our cold storage facility to see if I could use it to replace a two foot strip on the 944 I just picked up. Long story but the section fit perfectly. They get this from McMaster Carr Industrial Supply out of Atlanta. He told me they pay about 1.75 a linear foot for this which would mean you could replace your hatch seal for $43.75 plus shipping
(1.75 x 25 foot length). I will get the part number and post it here, I am going to get myself a 25 foot roll to replace mine. |

Hi, list the part number on this post and also tell us how it installed and if it indeed did the trick to keep water out.

i dont know about anyone else, but i would buy 500 ft, then cut in 25ft sections and sell them. i would pay...$50 to ya. im sure anyone else would too and in the end, yours may end up being free.

Head on over to www.924board.org and do a search on this. You'll find the part number for Canada, at least.

The seal is called an Edge-Grip Rubber Seal in the McMaster-Carr catalog. It is part # 12335A16 in catalog #114 page 3369. $1.85 per foot. The "bulb" portion on the one I was given is 5/8" diameter I think one of the smaller diameter ones would work as well. They are on line at www.mcmaster.com
Atlanta store phone number is 404 346 7000 Drove the car home in the rain with no leaks. |

This slips on but you could use some adhesive on the slip-on channel, I was given another scrap piece eight feet long and with my hatch up it goes from near where each of the hydraulic struts are close to the body, I haven't measured the total length - I'm guessing 14-16 feet - but reading their catalog
someone would have to buy 25 feet of it. A cross section looks (sort of) like this Ou with the O being the bulb, and the u being the slip on channel. Hope this helped. |
