Question Cooling fan issue - please help

I apologize, I have searched and still do not know what to look for to fix this.

At road speed, my 951 cools fine (needle right in the middle), but the needle rises quickly the minute I get into the driveway. After shutting the car off, the fan on the passenger side will continue to run for several minutes as it should, but the driver's side one does not. Also, this passenger fan appears to run at the "slow" speed (compared to my 944 N/A where both run at high speed for a lot shorter period of time after shutting the car off). The driver's side fan also does not run when the ignition is switched on.

The fuses are good. I have swapped the relays on the two cars so this is not the culprit.

What else might be the cause of this problem? Would it be the thermo switch?

I have been to Clark's and have the procedure for tomorrow.

Note: I just changed the coolant and rad hoses (I have bled it several times and will continue to do so for a while to make sure that there are no air pockets).

Is the fan still good? check if there is voltage at the fan connector when the car is hot (when other fan is on). Also if your car has working AC both fans should come on when it is turn on. If all the electrics check good. I would hamper a guess that you have a bad water pump or T-stat.

Interesting point about both fans coming on with the A/C... As they do not both operate when the A/C is on, I am starting to think that it is an electrical issue with the fan..

However, still need to figure out why they do not operate at high speed. The Clarke's write up should provide an answer - I hope.

Problem solved - bad resistors and wonky relay.

Used Clarke's to trouble shoot - highly useful.

Problem ended up being bad resistor wiring and a relay that only intermittently seems to power the fan. It is all working now and I have finally driven the car
