Thanks for reply.....looking to get response to my gapping questions though...already got new Bosch OEM part, so don't want to ruin that one as well.....

Of course, there are two sensors mounted in the same bracket. The one towards the front of the car is the TDC sensor, and triggers once per revolution on a stud which sticks out from the flywheel. The one towards the rear of the car is the speed sensor, which triggers @130 times per revolution, triggered by the teeth on the starter ring gear.

When you do the gap for the bracket, you use the speed sensor, not the TDC sensor. Of course, you could have other problems, like the stud on the flywheel sticking out too far, or the sensor bracket missing a spacer.

If it were me, I would make sure that both sensors are EXACTLY the same length before installing them.

It seems the top bolt has the play of about 1cm and the lower bolt is the pivot bolt....with no play other than rotational...so if you slide your sensor plus the 0.8mm washer on the end until it hit the top and tighten it should be good. Maybe I was unlucky with using non OEM sensors but gapping with slightly shorter OEM ones....makes sense really if I put an 0.8mm washer on a longer sensor (longer by 1mm) it will cause problems.....I guess.

Well, I changed the sensors and NO difference.

I have done so much to my car and the only thing to have made any driving difference is lining up the balance shaft properly.
I really thought/hoped it would be sensor related. I gapped to around 0.9mm and it is the same. It was just when I gapped too close..i.e on the flywheel, the revs really took off....so thought I was on to a winner there.

For the moment I can not get it to rev past 4200 rpm.

Open to ANY suggestions.

Thanks,

M

Update.....so all the washers and sensors arrived today.

Spaced everything up. 0.8mm washer on end of old sensor as a guide to set the bracket and 0.3mm 'S' washer under top of sensor and bracket. Plugged in new sensor and NO difference.

Really running out of options here. Someone has suggested the main DME, (as in ECU).

For me, going back to basics I was just looking through the recent bill of works and the last thing the garage I bought from had done was the timing. I checked the balance shafts and they were out by 7 teeth..circa 90 degree degrees...I then rectified the problem and put them back in line properly....the TDC and line on camshaft sprocket looked OK...but having read more and more on our little beauties if it were one tooth off would this create this problem? What are the symptoms of it being say one whole tooth out?

Thanks,

M

Ok...so here it is.....my 0-60mph time.......don't always rag it but this was basically WOT from standstill up to 60 mph....about 11 seconds!!...3rd gear pulls quite well but first and second seem really strained. It is certainly alot better since I put in the battery dash bulb and can rev it up to around 5300rpm.....but no red line...and I tried......still very slow...according to by power curve diagram 60 mph should be achieved by just going into third.

So...all comments welcome!

Thanks,
