Hesitation / Deceleration issues
All,
I have a 1984 944. When I accelerate, the car starts to feel hesitant at the mid RPM ranges and then really seems to drag at the top end. It does not seem to matter if the throttle is wide open or half open. Basically, the car just seems to drag, no real shuddering. Once I am at speed, if I remove my foot from the pedal, the car really seems to decelerate. Even on a slight downhill streach, I have to run the car at like 1/8th or 1/4th pedal just to maintain speed. I also ended up only getting 12-15 MPGs for the last tank of gas. I was not driving it heavy and never was really above 4.5k RPMs. Recently, I have had the head reconditioned with new valves, seals, stems, etc. I replaced all 4 injectors, rotor, cap, plugs, fuel filter, and the fuel pump (dead). The car has a new clutch (new style, <10k miles), master and slave cylander, and the system is well bled. Oil changed recently, new timing/balance shaft belt, and coolant/radiator. Any idea why the car has this hesitation during acceleration / deceleration once I am at speed? Thanks! |

my guess would be the potentiometer in the afm. See clarks-garage.com

When you drive at night, do any of your brake rotors glow? Does your handbrake work? Does the car pull? Is there gear oil in the tranny?
