Last resort!

Looking for a little help in Calgary...

Long story short, I bought a 1986 944, My dream car finally! Had it for about 3 weeks and 1000km. Timing belt slipped and well I don't need to say thats not good. I REALLY want to keep my baby only small problem is that I have no idea how to fix it... I again REALLY want to learn how to do it rather then pay a shop elevenity billion dollars to do the work.

So thats it, My cry for help! If anybody in or around Calgary could point me in the right direction I would be more then thankful.. Oh and I have BEER! lol

Thanks everybody.

What did happen ? Did you check the head yet ??? If you do not drive this car everyday, get in there and rip the head off and find a new one (I can't imagine an 8v head cost that much) if you look around...personally I would go this route rather than replace the damaged parts of the head...Its all up to you, I just watched an 87 944 sell on Ebay for 900 USD !!!

Jordan - welcome to the board! See if you can change your post title to something like "Need HELP in CALGARY!" That'll garner some more response close to you.

Clark's Garage is a great place to go looking, too. Also, do a search here on this site and you'll find lots of info. Plus, you've got my number.

I can vouch for Jordan - great guy in a really unfortunate situation.

Like everyone else said it won't be too bad. Plus everyone on here is very helpful. Make sure you read everything on Clarks and get yourself a Haynes manual. You'll need a belt tensioner, I suggest the arnworx system.

Well, this looks like the first opourtunity to help out with this head program

I have a completely rebuilt NA head on the shelf ready to go. I'm not sure how much shipping would be, but the head itself is $325. I will PM you some more information.

believe it or not, the head is easier to get on than off, in my opinion. just be sure to clean the mating surfaces very well and replace any vacuum hoses that look bad.

Send a message via ICQ to ae1969
Read clarks-garage and understand the instructions

I would suggest you have someone (with some experience) help you put on the new set of belts. The rest of the job is pretty straight forward.

BE CLEAN and TAKE YOUR TIME.

Just a heads-up: there's a 6mm (IIRC) inner hex bolt on the front driver's side of the head that you don't want to break. Saturate it with WD40 or PB Blaster and when you seat your tool in it, give it a few raps with a hammer to wake it up. Because of its location, it corrodes a bit.
