speed sensors

hi all ,
just a quick one on the sensor, does any body know if the 89 s2 should have 1 sensor on the bell housing or 2 ,mine only has 1, but on the p.p cat it says 2 per car , 1 only for the 968 ??
i asked this question a couple of months ago and got a reply that it only supposed to have the 1 , so i just wanna be sure im having a starting issue which could be related.

is there any reason the p.o would have removed speed or referance sensors ? im not sure which one is still in there but i have tach bounce when cranking ,it starts but just takes 7 or 8 cranks to fire when left sitting for a while .starts perfect when engine is hot, does the sensor only do its thing when engine is cool ? not when hot ??

Ohhhhh - mine takes about 5 cranks before start - hot or cold. Im just trying to find a fix - i cleaned all the ground points - and also cleaned starter up - still very slow.....
Thanks

If it needed two sensors and only had one, it wouldn't run. I think all of the 16 valve cars used a hall sensor on the distributor instead of the refrence sensor on the flywheel.

It sounds like you may be loosing fuel pressure while it's sitting, and it takes a few cranks (7 - 8) before the pressure is back up again. I gather that it starts quicker if not left for long? If this is true, it's unlikely to be the sensor. More likely something in the fuel path.

yeah been down the fuel rd. changed f.p.r, fuel pump check vale ,and it passed the leakdown test with flying colours !it only started happening consistantly when the weather got a bit warmer,on frosty mornings it would fire first crank so it points to some sort of thermostat fault. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
just went out to try it mid message ,second time since i changed the stat, first time it didnt seem much differant but this time i tried it according to manual no touch gas pedal ,she fired right up ! but no way im calling it this early a bit cooler out this eve aswell , so not overly confident but ya never know. even a dogs arse gets a bit of sun every now and again ,fingers crossed

Yeah, just read your other post. looks like all you have left to change out in the fuel path is the damper.

Hope you've fixed it.
