Questions about early 944 Option codes...
FWIW: I have a 1985/0...
Does anyone know what M715 - CONTROL PV-U PRODUCTION PILOT RUN indicates? Does M404 - FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS indicate an early car with LSD (and bars) or just bars? The car acts like it has an LSD but there's no M220 code. It also has 7/8x15 Fuchs and yet I see no code for those. Was there a sport option that pulled a bunch of things together into a package? ..or maybe some dealer tweaking? On an unrelated note... Has anyone every tried to fit 8/9x16 (real) Fuchs to a 944 (early, if that matters)? What's the widest (autocross centric) shoe you've fitted to a 944 chassis? Has anyone deployed some Ray's (GL 57s) on a 944? I've seen them on late model Carrera so maybe there's a way (with wheel spacers and appropriate offset) to get there. Got any other autocross-only ideas to save unsprung weight/add meat? Thanks for any insight, JR (chicane) |

Prior owner might have added fuch wheels and LSD trans. Nice and easily done mods.

the early (82-85/1) 944 came with Fuchs but not the same style that are on the water cooled.
Also to see if the trans has LSD the numbers stamped on it should help you without diggin into it.

easiest way to see if it has LSD is to jack up both sides of the rear and see if both wheels rotate the same direction. If they do it has LSD. If one goes one way and the other the other way then it is an open rear end. I believe that the early wheels are cookie cutters and not made by fuch?
