Power Steering Reservoir Cap - Can Someone Post A Clear Picture?

Trying to sort out some issues with my power steering system on my 84 and have run into a snag as to what the correct seal is and what it looks like.

Here are a couple shots of the seal that was on the car when i got it. It looks quite worn, and actually just broke when I removed it from the cap. I suspect it has been on the car for quite a few years. It appears to be made of some sort of gasket material.

(I apologize for the poor quality of the pics, my cell phone sux at close-ups. )

I ordered a replacement seal from our host but it seems as though the one ordered/received isn't correct either. I provided the part number over from the website to the person at Pelican, who also confirmed the number. Even the packaging has the same number as indicated here on the site, but it just doesn't seem to fit. It seems a bit small and will not rest on the flat underside of the cap, but rather stays caught up in the threads of the cap. It also seems a bit thin, approximately 1/16 of an inch. I assumed it sould have been a little thicker.

If someone...anyone...would be so kind as to take a nice, clear shot of your own cap and seal and post it here, I'd really appreciate it.

The seal may not fit because you may need an entire new cap/seal combo. The paper seal cap does not have the indent for the replacement "O" ring.

If you need the cap, get the whole reservoir pkg. from Pelican because inside the reservoir there is a filter that clogs. Pictures as requested.

Ahhh, two different caps, each with their own specific seal...now it all makes sense. Thanks for posting the pics and for the info, John!

Also makes sense to replace the entire reservoir unit as well.

That filter being clogged, I wonder if that may be at least a part of the issue I've been experiencing. It seems that, no matter what, I can't get any air bled from my system?

With the cap off, I've tried to turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, and every time I do, the reservoir foams up so bad it overflows right out of the reservoir.

You may have a leaky copper seal or bad hose.

WOW! More great info...thanks! I think I know what I'll be doing next weekend!

Are you talking about the copper seals on the pump banjo bolts? The video mentions replacing them with "upgraded seal washers".

My resevoir cap was leaking at the track, so in a pinch I went to a local hardware store and found an o-ring the same diameter but slightly thicker than the old one. It sealed it up fine to finish my weekend. Figured I'd order the specific part later, but it's been a year and it's still sealed perfectly.
So it was my cheapest fix - .59 cents.

Randy, I reused my pump copper seals and no leaks. Pelican Parts has copper seals in parts if you need to order:

Just got off the phone with Travis at Rennbay. He informed me that they no longer offer the "seal washer" and have gone back to the copper ones. It seems the "seal washers" were a great idea in theory, but in application...not so much!

Ordered a new banjo bolt and 2 copper seals, along with a pump re-seal kit from them. After watching the video in the link you provided, my little sister could re-seal that thing blind-folded...and I don't even have a little sister!

Turned right around and spoke with Jason at Pelican and ordered a complete new reservoir. All parts should be here by next weekend, so there goes my Saturday morning!
