Installing 924 A/C into 924S?
Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to install the complete A/C system of a 924 (1983) into a 924S (1986). According to this site http://www.griffiths.com/porsche/ac/944ac/index.html there are two kinds of compressors for the 944 (the later one is used for 924S), but there's no info on the 924. Also I have no clue on the additional part, such as cooler, condenser, drier etc. though I feel, after some Google-ing, that these are the same for every model. According to PET the compressors are different, but I still wonder how big of a job it would be to install. Any help is welcome ![]() Thanks. |

Condensors are different, but 924S is available new, I bought one and modded the mounts to work in my early 944. Hose connections are very tight on space if you try to mix in other stuff.

Thanks, but I don't completely get your answer...
944s have tw different kind of compressors: one with 4 and the other with 6 botls holdig them. 924S uses the one with 6 bolts. What about the plain 924? Condenser difference I understand - I suppose tha's one for 924 and another for924S/944. The rest, supposedly the inner parts, switches, cabling etc. are same for 924 and 924S, or? Thanks. |

The early 924 is a completely different compressor than either the early 944 or the later 924S / late 944/951 compressor. The tensioner setup is also completely different. I'll stop short of saying it can't be done, but I seriously doubt it will be bolt-on. Mounting points, tensioning, and hose connections are almost certainly all going to be different.

Hi guys,
I'm located in Hungary, thus not counting the Atlantic and Western-Europe: just around the corner ![]() My 924S is from 1986 (this is not important regarding A/C) and I got an offer of a full A/C of a plain 924 dated 1983 - thus late 924. According to PET catalog I would need a compressor 944 126 008 00. Also according to PET both the early and late 924 cars use compressor 047 260 803or in other numbering 477 298 809. So number-wise they are surely different (though it might mean only the mounting); however, as in my car many things are 924, thisis why I'm wondering, how big of a job it would b to mount it... |

The only thing common to between the early 924 and the later 924S were body and trim components. The 924S motor is completely different, there are virtually no shared components between the 2.0L and the 2.5L platform. Because the A/C compressor bolts onto the engine and tensions in completely different ways between the two platforms, I would not expect them to be interchangeable. Again, not saying it can't be made to work with some ingenuity, but it is going to be strictly DIY territory. Good luck, and if you get it to work, post back with a how-to

Update on this one: I finally installed a parted A/C from a 1984 944, which works just fine, except the condenser having some tiny hole on it, which can't be fixed, so now I'm looking for a condenser in good shape...if anyone has one, lemme know
