Dudde...you watch too much MacGuiver! It won't work.
Well, yes, the housing being aluminum would shrink as well. However, the sensor being (Steel?) would shrink as a different rate. this change in dimension with respect to temperature is known as a thermal coefficient of expansion. It is what allows you to get bearings really cold in the freezer and then pop em into a housing with minimal fuss. Per Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coefficient_of_thermal_expansion Aluminum has a coefficient of linear expansion of 23 ^10^6 inches per degree Kelvin (which is pretty odd as they are mixing SI and standard units) and Steel has 11 to 13 (same units). Looks like as the temperature id decreased....the aluminum shrinks faster than the steel....so you would be making the sensor tighter in the bore. Soorry! Heating may help though! you could put a tiiny tiny heating coil on the block and bring it up to 350 and perhaps you would have a bit more play. Careful it is hot! I have done the same for lots of car parts, I would just never do it for electrical sensors. they might melt in place and then where would you be?

haha, that was the best picture of it, believe me it doesn't look that good, but you're right it seems like a LOT of miles, but definitely possible if it was taken care of and driven long distances frequently since 1987, I'd like to verify it if possible?
I do have time so i will just hit it with PB blaster every so often, the bolts are already out, and it is only the one nearest the firewall that's giving me trouble.
