joshl1978,

I read a couple of your previous posts and it seems to have started with the removal of the DME.

"85/1 start then dies like clockwork" -joshl1978

ANY FEEDBACK PLEASE. My 944 starts runs for about 15-20 secs then dies, if i let it sit a few minutes it will start then die the exact same way like clockwork as if the fuel supply or spark is abruptly cutoff. I replaced the dme relay to no avail. I have had the car for about a year without any problems until now.

about 6 months ago i removed the dme and adjusted the air fuel mixture no problem. However, when i put the dme back in there is round part attached by a wire to the dme harness that i didnt bolt back in the same way i think i just rested it up there anyway the day i began having problems this part fell from under the dash and was hanging by its wire. I have no idea what this thing is or if it could be related to my problem.

You need to have your DME checked. You can call www.944ecology.com and he will test it for you. Or the best DME service is Systems Consulting. Here is a web site and one page shows typical DME failure modes.

http://www.systemsc.com/failuremodes.htm

The web site has other DME information.

Here is a link on how to resolder the DME:

Yup just did the swap to mine last week, very nice. No gain in HP, but does get rid of the "idle shudder" (after you rev. RPMs drop to about 5-600, then to normal).
There is a test, but I forget exactly what it is. www.clarks-garage.com has the test / Garage shop amnuel / "D" at top of page and scroll down to DME. (just checked for you, wasnt in the DME section- but it is there somewhere, sorry)
I think the thing that is hanging by a wire is the ?altitude sensor? it is pictured in a thread something like "a little fun" it is first page
, about half way down
What exactly is the matter with your car? A better explanation of whats going on will get more and more people to help you out. Itsa no spark deal I'm guessing. Could be a number of things from the ignition switch, speed/ reference sensors, coil, starter. The DME relay is what people say to check out first- Clarks has that on the site under "DME relay testing"
