Speed/ reference sensor adjustment

I read Clarks Grage, I know how to do the procedure. Clarks says to get a .8mm washer and glue it to the end. Went to my local hardfware store to pick one up (along with some other nuts 'n bolts), talked to a worker an askee how do I tell if it is ,8mm tall? And he said that he didnt know, just too look for it? All he knew was the lenght and diameter, not height. What ones have you used? i had the manifold off, and a washer from the screw that holds the manifold on, does fit in the reference hole, but dont know if it .8mm though. And also, when you take the reference sensor off, there is an "8" looking washer (1 bigger hole for the sensor, and a smaller one for the mounting screw. When you do the cleance, do you put this between the bracket and sensor, or leave it out when doing clearance? Thanks guys.

if the sensors are brand new you can adjust the bracket all the way up for now until you get the proper tool. the knew sensors can read through the oversized gap. but they will have to be set properly in order for them to work in the long term

For future on-lookers. Over on Rennlist, someone told me that people have used a book of matches, the cover. Glued it to the sensor, put everything back together, and ran the car. The cover of the matches is cardboard, and should tear apart or fall out the inspection hole. I thought that was a great idea. I will try it out later on today, and see if it works.

0.8 mm is about .028 inches. A little thinner than a dime.

This is the "8" washer that I was talking about that was between the bracket and the reference sensor. The sensor has some wiggle room inh the big hole, and so does the hole that the screw goes into. It is about the tickness of a normal washer, maybee slightly bigger.

Well...if this does not work for you, you can get BMW or other reference sensor interchanges for about $70 each. One thickness of a matchbook cover is too thin. Maybe folded over a couple of times. Clarks-Garage has a good writeup.

Were you ever able to locate the missing sensor bracket bolt?

Well, I am getting a gapping tool from a Rennlist member, so I think I will have the right gap when that het here. I tried the matchbook, and it didnt happen for me. I tried to start the car, nothing happened. Dint hear the starter engage, so I stoped right away. I had the starter tested when the engine was "hot/ no start" (I have a hot start problem) and the girl said the starter was bad, but It staretr a few days later. Ill get it re-checked.
No, I never did get the bolt out of the bellhousing. I really dont know if it is down there anymore. I felt all around with a caot hanger and an extension magnet.
