thanks for all the input gentelman this was just to educate the membership on how important it is to do some research.... like i said i should always practice what i preach carfax is important especially for resale. since i get tired or bored with my cars quickly it is important that in order to finance the next purchase or project that you have all the info on the current one ....thanks again i hope i didn't ruffle anybody feathers hopefully i will sell the car... to someone that appreciates the car as well as i have....just have to see the car to appreciate it...if i get 4g's for it i will happy. p.s sometimes previous owners don't do a carfax either so this why i said maybe 3 owners ago...

yeah - i never understood not keeping a project car for at least 10 years - heck, it takes 5 just to get it close to what you want - most of mine i hang onto for longer - the last one was 25 years - i've owned over 40 cars, and i think that any of them that i actually drove i had for at least 3 years (i bought some and sold them without ever driving them)
that aside, carfax can be a good tool, but you also have to realize that it only shows what is reported - it is only as good as the information given - it does not necessarily show everything - as an example, i have had 2 cars that have had accidents that did not show up on the carfax - they were minor things that i had fixed myself, without even involving the insurance i tend to ignore a carfax, and really just base my decisions on the true condition of the car - this is why i usually get it on a lift and check it out first - i don't even mind salvage titles, if i plan to keep it - i also do not buy cars from areas where they salt the roads though, so many of the issues become moot |

Carfax is just a tool. Nothing more. Especially on an old classic car like this.
I use it as a guide on what to look at in more detail on the car. The simple fact is cars get driven. In that process things hapen to them. Most of those things can be fixed. Flood damage can mean a lot of things from wet carpet to electrical. If it all works and does not smell at this point the carfax does not mean much at all. |
