Loss of power, then sudden increase in power??

Over the last couple of days, I have experienced a problem that I can't seem to fix on my 944s. I have replaced the FPR and DME Relay with no change.

The problem:
I'll be accelerating and all of a sudden I'll get a loss of power... the car will stop accelerating, but the tact doesn't drop off really fast. I can put my foot at WOT, and nothing will happen. However, all of a sudden, the power will return for a couple minutes and then the problem will repeat.

The only thing I have found that fixes the problem is to turn off the car and restart it. Typically I can go 5 to 15 minutes without the problem repeating. It's also been running fairly hot recently, only a few millimeters from the red.

Any suggestions?

....iam,
Have you tried your spare DME RELAY or the 3 wire jumper you keep in the door pocket? If you need to read about it here:
http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-05.htm

Pls excuse if you meant the DME (relay) in your Q

Just a guess

Yeah, I meant DME Relay. I tried two new ones and the one, same problem with all three. Thanks for the suggestion and welcome!

I will add that I had no problems for the first 3 months that I had this car. This problem started the day that the air intake boot came off the air flow meter. Of course, the car was dead on the road when it slipped off; but ever since reattaching it, i've been experiencing the same power loss / power surge / power loss / power surge that was happening just before it died during the air intake boot incident.

I've checked the boot and there are no tear or leaks.

Suggestion 2,

Time to get serious and clean all the grounds. Especially the bell housing neg cable and sm one next to it.
Clean the Reference Sensor connections at the top back of the engine/firewall. If the wires or connectors are falling apart-replace

Usually the above does not help but it should be done.

What I think is the problem is the DME computer. Check the rear connection.
Maybe try soldering a few areas:

Or prepare to buy one from Pelican want to buy parts:

or have it tested by one of our superior members- www.944ecology.com

OH,
Unless the intake boot was ripped off and took some vacuum hoses along, just coming off and reattaching should cause no powerloss/surge issues.
Did you trace all the hoses underneath the intake boot to the origin points?

Some are hard to follow underneath the intake manifold and may be cracked.
