Good Asking Price for a NICE Set of Phone dials??

Hey Guys,

I've decided to sell my set of phone dials and replace them with the set of cookie cutters the PO gave me. I really like the look of the phone dials, but they're going to have to go to cover the cost of my clutch parts. The phone dials are REALLY nice...No scratches, dents, curb rash, or dings. They are on a 1984, so I don't know if that helps with the size or offset at all.

I just have no idea how much to ask for these things, and I don't want to get screwed by doing an OBO. Thanks for the input.

Matt

I sold my set within the last year for 200 + shipping ( about $250). Seemed like the market price then.

check evilbay/ craigslist and the for sale here for guidance.

I have seen them sell for as much as 1k. I would let my extra set go for 500. 5-600 is probably all you would expect right now.

Early offsets are seemingly not as valuable as late offsets. 6's are not as valuable as 7's and 8's.

A set of 4 nice conditions 7"x15 52 offsets goes from around $250-300. People have put sets on the FS forms before with nice center caps at $400 before.

I paid $100 for a set that were straight, no curb rash, with just really bad chipping paint. It won't cost me more than $100 to completely refinish them, sans my time and the price of the gas to drive 2 1/2 hours one way to pick them up.

So, like everything else, you get what you pay for.

Hello,

I have seen several on evilbay and they are mostly in the $200 to $400 range - with one or two bids on the $200 ones -

well let me ask you this. I'm planning on refinishing the cookie cutters before I put them on. They're not in bad shape, just a little dull. Would I get more for the set of cookie cutters (with center caps) or for the phone dials, or would I end up just about even?

Right now, I'm not worried about which damn wheels I have on the car..I'm worried about a new clutch kit. lol!

The Phonies and Cookie Cutters are about in the same range with 16" preferred size. I actually preferr the Cookie Cutters over the Phone Dials (JMP - just my opinion). Then there are the infamous Fuchas, again jmp they're ugly, but much more preferred, maybe I do not know any thing special about them, but supply and demand takes over and popular opinion raises the price of a more sought after tire rim that looks like a lady's flower.

Just the other day I found an original set of "Ronals" - these are the aftermarket rims that all of the racers used back in the mid late 80's - a fair looking rim in a five star design with polished/machined outer lip and painted car color on the star spokes. Ha ha, these are almost perfect on the outer lip and the entire rim but the PO (previous owner) painted over the Garnet Red (Burgundy) with a T-Shirt and black tar type paint - seriously there are red spots and drips/swipe marks, huge runs, etc. all over the middle of them - sad sight. Probably more fun here to research their use back then?

Again just my opinion they stil look like a flower when the centers are polished and the outer painted (Mostly black). There again they may be lighter and stronger than others, I guess I will have to find out about that.

Cookie cutters are excellent auto-x wheels. You should be able to get $400, maybe $500 if you've got new tires on them. Try the 911 board (Cookies were stock for a few years on the 911 also, so there's some demand there too).

Phone dials are common on 944s and will get you maybe the same as cookies. They're maybe $300 by themselves, $400-$500 with tires depending.

Late offset stuff can occasionally fetch a higher price, but that's because there are so few choices available for the late offset cars. The early offset stuff is way more common which is a help (larger potential customer base) and a hindrance (lots of competition/supply keeps prices low)

Cookies verses phonies? I say put them both on a scale and pick the lighter of the two. Both are worth maybe $300 if you are lucky.
