Smile Idle Stabilizer--Can you remove it.........

Can the idle stabilizer valve be removed from an 87 944 NA without having to remove the intake?

Has anyone tried running some sort of solvent through the valve while it was still on the car? Seems like I read a thread sometime back that someone did this. Was is successful?

Not that I'd recommend. It's attached to the top of the engine by 2 10mm bolts. Getting to those without moving the intake is nearly impossible.

Yes..you can spray some carb cleaner into it..it does get gummed up over time...if your able to remove the clamp around the hose, that is if your clamp screw is in a position to get a screwdriver on it, you can pull the hose off...usually the extension tube for the carb cleaner will not reach the inlet of the idle stabilizer..what I do is just take some small diameter tubing about 10 inches long and insert it into the inlet of the idle stabilzer and the other end on the carb cleaner extension tube and squirt a few shots of cleaner...place a rag under the stabilizer to catch the drips...it makes difference..the valve in the stabilzer does get gummed up..I do this once a year....

Or run a half can of Sea Foam through the entire vacuum system. Introduce it at the brake booster hose and clean everything.
