When not working on your 944

What do you do?

I work on these.

and when not working on those, I drink beer.

Which reminds me, I have to fly up north again and leave my 944 sitting in the pouring rain again for a week. Wish I fixed my leaky rear windows.

boring. software engineer for motorola.

Icey1174 11-22-2009 06:32 PM

I used to work for Motorola in Elma, NY before they closed the plant. :)

Well, I'm not the official ice technician, but I pretty much do and know everything for it. I'm technically head ice resurfacer.

Refrigeration plant. There's a second unit exactly like this immediately outside the picture. Each one has a 4 cyl and a 6 cyl R-22 reciprocating compressor that cools a glycol solution that's circulated through a cooling grid in the concrete slab.

Ice replacement earlier in the season

The world's biggest single edged razor blade at 84" long...and it's nearly as sharp as one.

My younger bro learning some ice maintenance. The resurfacer had just been decorated for Halloween.

I'm in school for mechanical engineering, but that's not so cool yet. :p

Icey1174 11-22-2009 06:42 PM

That's a nice looking rink! I am a referee :)

Techno Duck 11-22-2009 07:03 PM

Went for mechanical engineering also. Refrigeration is a great area of study to get into, especially service. Good money in that field if you can get the proper licensing (state and federal, the federal is easy).

I was planning on doing HVAC service when I got outta school for one of the big name places (Carrier or Trane have strong ties to my school) but didn't know you need to be an apprentice to get that sort of spot. All the guys they hire from my school are in sales.. No way i can deal with sitting behind a desk making calls all day.

I chase these.

Wow I always love the look of new lines. I worked in a rink for many years and changed many of zamboni blades and had many of late nights working on a good sheet of ice with friends after a long pick up game of hockey. not to mention the old crane compressors running at the rink and the HDB zamboni we had. my favorit Zam was the old 1962 3 speed JR we had as a back up it never let us down.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1258957306.jpg

Not really a 944 guy as I sold mine a year ago, but I still hang around here. Occassionally I contribute something useful. For money, I'm a code monkey.

I used to know a guy named Ian (pronounce Eye-an) who worked there doing that. He hasn't been there for more than five years that I know of.
